Classification values
Define the markings authors can apply: levels, compartments, and release-to values.
Open Data Classification → Set Classification Values in the admin console.
Levels
Levels represent overall sensitivity (for example Top Secret, Secret, Confidential, Unclassified).
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Label | Full display name on banners |
| Abbreviation | Short form for in-page markers |
| Score | 1 = most restrictive, 5 = least — used in rollup |
| Description | Help text for admins |
Up to five levels are supported, ordered from most to least restrictive.
Compartments
Compartments add specialized categories (for example SCI, SAP, SI).
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Label / Abbr | Display and in-page forms |
| Score | Rollup picks strictest compartment present |
| Level applies to | Limit compartment to certain levels |
Release-to
Release-to values describe who may receive the information (for example REL TO USA, REL TO USA, CAN).
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Label / Abbr | Display forms |
| Score | Rollup picks strictest release present |
| Prefix required | Whether REL TO prefix is enforced |
Import from JSON
You can import a full scheme from JSON instead of entering values manually:
- Open Set Classification Values → Import JSON.
- Paste or upload a template file (DoD, NATO, ISO, etc.).
- Review field mapping and confirm before saving.
:::caution Review imported values carefully. Confirm separators, abbreviations, and scores match your policy before authors begin classifying. :::
UNCLASSIFIED
Unclassified should exist as a configured level and serves as the fallback when no classification is present on a page.
