Classify text

Authors classify selected text while viewing or editing a page.

From page view or edit

  1. Select the text you want to classify.
  2. Click the Classify action in the selection toolbar (or use the classification entry point provided by the plugin).
  3. In the three-column dialog, choose:
    • Level (required)
    • Compartment (if applicable)
    • Release-to (if applicable)
  4. Confirm. The selection is wrapped in a classification macro with the chosen marking.

Typed markers

If your administrator enabled manual conversion, you may type configured abbreviations directly in the editor. On save/publish, Classifier:

  • Finds typed markers in the content
  • Converts them to classification macros
  • Includes them in the page rollup

After classifying

  • Inline markings appear around the classified passage.
  • The page rollup recalculates from all macros on the page.
  • On save, you will confirm the rollup (see Page banner & save).

Tips

  • Classify the smallest meaningful unit (paragraph or section) when using selective restriction — users without clearance for that marking will not see that block.
  • Use Unclassified for content that may be seen by anyone with page access.
  • Do not rely on font color or bold alone; use the macro so permissions and rollup stay correct.
