Page banner & save flow

Every classified page displays a banner at the top — the overall (rollup) classification. Saving a page is when banner and permissions are committed.

The Classifier button

On page view, the Classifier control in the page metadata area shows:

  • Current banner (if saved)
  • Option to open the Page Classifier dialog
  • Rollup details when an update is needed

Save / publish flow

When you save or publish a page that contains classifications:

  1. Classifier scans editor content for macros and converted typed markers.
  2. It calculates the rollup (strictest level, compartment, release).
  3. A confirmation dialog shows the proposed page banner.
  4. You accept (or adjust via page-level classification if offered).
  5. Classifier updates page permissions to match the banner group.
  6. Classifier stores banner and classification properties on the page.
  7. Confluence completes the page save.

If step 5 or 6 fails (for example missing group), save is blocked and you see an error — try again after the group is created.

Create vs edit

Situation Behavior
Editing existing page Rollup confirmed at save; permissions update immediately
Creating new page Rollup may be queued until the page is published; properties flush when the page is first viewed with an ID

Page-level classification

You can set or change classification at page level through the Page Classifier dialog. That value participates in rollup together with inline macros — the strictest marking wins for the banner.

What gets stored

After a successful save, the page retains:

  • Banner text (for example Secret//SCI//REL TO USA, CAN)
  • Component fields (level, compartment, release)
  • List of individual classifications found on the page
  • Audit metadata (author, source of save)
